More from the David Hey Collection

The David Hey Collection is a wonderful online archive with 1000s of photographs of the railways in the UK. David Hey has kindly taken the time to send Starcross History another of the photographs which feature trains travelling through Starcross. This one shows not one, but 2 steam trains travelling along the estuary at Powderham.

'The stretch of line skirting the River Exe estuary between Exeter and Starcross was a popular location for railway photographers. Passing Powderham Park on Saturday 30 July 1960 is the 12.05 SO Paddington-Plymouth with, as usual, two locos hauling it. On the front is 'Grange' class No 6813 Eastbury Grange of Exeter shed and the train engine is 'Hall' class No 4995 of Easton Hall from Southall shed. No 4995 has probably come the whole way down, with 6813 added at Exeter. On the same page in the collection; page 23;  there's Pullman coaches being pulled across Cockwood harbour , and many more photos of trains in the area.

Many thanks, again, to David Hey.
