Please don't forget to go and see our swan by Teignmouth Pier

The finishing touches have been added to our Swan of the Exe which is now in place by Teignmouth Pier. She now has eyes, and a blue pennant which reads The Swan of the Exe; just like the one the real swan folly carried in her beak.

Trail Recycled Art in the Landscape have added an informative plaque which reads:

Vicky Jocher / Starcross History
Starcross artist Vicky Jocher and Starcross History present the iconic, Victorian, maritime folly, The Swan of the Exe. The luxurious white and gold yacht in the form of a swan was moored at Starcross. She survived until the 1960s, but rises again to join T.R.A.I.L. to protest plastic pollution of the planet. The children of Starcross Primary School made most of the magnificent plumage, attaching feathers made from plastic milkbottles to a hand-made trawler net; at workshops led by Vicky. Visitors to St Pauls Celebration of Country Life, members of Starcross History, and passing children in Teignmouth also contributed feathers. The Swan tows a gabion, filled with some of the billions of tons of plastic flotsam and jetsam which inexorably accumulate in the deep ocean.

We hope our Wackin Burd will have lots of visitors this summer. She'll be there all summer.
